Akebia Therapeutics Secures New Patent Covering Dosing Regimen for Chronic Kidney Disease

Akebia Therapeutics (AKBA) said Wednesday that it has secured a new patent covering a once daily dosing regimen for treating anemia secondary to or associated with chronic kidney disease.

The company said that the patent, valid until June 2034, is listed in the US Food and Drug Administration's Approved Drug Products with Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations, also known as the Orange Book.

Akebia said it also received notification of eligibility to extend the expiration of a composition of matter patent covering Vafseo, indicated for treating anemia due to chronic kidney disease in adults receiving dialysis for at least three months. The extension is for five years, it said.
