TSMC's Manufacturing Leadership Remains Intact -- Market Talk

Dow Jones11:33

0333 GMT - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s manufacturing leadership remains intact despite progress made by rivals Intel and Samsung, Bernstein analysts say in a note. While Intel may gain traction by winning some small orders from Apple, the analysts say that is more likely due to geopolitical reasons. "The revenue impact on TSMC should be minimal, as TSMC's growth is primarily constrained by capacity rather than demand," they say. While Samsung is advancing its 2-nanometer node, the analysts say it is closer to TSMC's 3-nanometer process in practice and therefore still trails TSMC's process technologically. The analysts expect TSMC's 2Q revenue to be slightly above the midpoint of its guidance of between US$39.0 billion-US$42.0 billion. Shares are 0.7% lower at NT$2,240.00. (sherry.qin@wsj.com)
