Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI said Wednesday it suspended two groups of ChatGPT accounts originating from China for running covert operations to manipulate American tech policy debates.
The first group generated social media posts and media claiming that artificial intelligence data centers were inflating household electricity prices, the company said.
The second group produced posts condemning American tariffs while spreading claims that user records had been compromised, OpenAI said.
The foreign campaigns attempted to leverage domestic concerns over energy costs and local infrastructure developments to interfere in public discourse, it said.
