Japanese Equities Surge as US, Iran Agree on Peace Deal

Japanese stocks surge after officials said a peace agreement between the US and Iran will be signed later this week.

The Nikkei 225 jumped 763.2 points or 1.6% to 66,783.22.

Trump said in a social media post that the Strait of Hormuz would open once the deal is signed on June 19.

Iranian state media also confirmed that it will sign a deal with the U.S. following mediation by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Investors are also focused on the U.S. and Japan's central bank decisions this week.

With Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda hospitalized, deputy Shinichi Uchida will host a post-meeting press conference on Tuesday.
