The Food and Drug Administration approved the first generic version of Genentech's Xofluza, the first single-dose treatment for influenza, ahead of the 2026-2027 flu season.
The generic baloxavir marboxil tablets, made by Norwich Pharmaceuticals, are approved to treat acute uncomplicated influenza and for post-exposure prevention of the flu in patients aged 5 and older.
The FDA said expanding the availability of generic drugs helps increase competition, lower costs and improve patient access to treatment.
