Market Chatter: SEC Mulls Tokenized Stocks as Crypto Firms Eye Blockchain Equity Trading

US equity markets could see a major shift as the Securities and Exchange Commission considers allowing "tokenized stocks" under a proposed innovation exemption, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing analysts and lawyers.

The policy would let crypto firms offer blockchain-based versions of traditional equities, enabling 24/7 trading and near-instant settlement, according to the report.

The move, expected under SEC Chair Paul Atkins, aims to give companies regulatory flexibility to experiment with digital asset models, it said. Crypto exchanges like Coinbase (COIN), Robinhood (HOOD) and Kraken are preparing for potential US launches, after growing overseas activity, the report said.

The SEC, Coinbase, Robinhood and Kraken did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
