Stantec named Susan Reisbord, currently chief operating officer of its North America business, as its next president and chief executive officer.

Reisbord succeeds Gord Johnston, who will retire from the president and CEO roles effective Oct. 1, the design and engineering company said Wednesday.

Johnston will remain on the board and take on the role of vice chair, the company said.

Reisbord joined Stantec in 2021 with its acquisition of Cardno, where she was CEO. Reisbord became the business operating unit leader for Stantec's environmental services business line and was promoted to her role as chief operating officer for North America, the company's largest geographic operating unit, in 2025.

Johnston has been CEO for more than eight years.

Stantec said the transition is part of a long-standing succession plan led by its board.
