China Starch (HKG:3838) expects to report an attributable loss of about 4 million yuan for the five months ended May 31, compared with a profit of 137 million yuan a year earlier.
The cornstarch manufacturer attributed the expected loss to higher shipping costs, weaker export competitiveness and soft demand in China's lysine market.
