Some Reasons Google Is Having Such A Bad Day -- WSJ

$255 billion

That's how much market value Alphabet has lost today, which would be its biggest one-day drop on record if it holds through the close.

The move comes as the Google-parent's shares fell nearly 6%, the stock's biggest one-day decline since May 2025.

Two artificial intelligence all-stars, John Jumper and Noam Shazeer, recently announced they were leaving the company for Anthropic and OpenAI respectively. And those departures came after months of Google trailing behind Anthropic and ChatGPT in the corporate and consumer AI markets, said Gil Luria, head of technology research at D.A. Davidson.

"It's like wait a second, not only did they lose their lead, they also lost their best researchers, which tells us those two people who don't need the money believe they have a better chance of being at the forefront of research at OpenAI and Anthropic than they do at Google DeepMind," Luria said.
