Ocean Power Technologies (OPTT) said Wednesday that it has successfully deployed and commissioned a PowerBuoy system off the coast of New Jersey in support of Rutgers University.
The device marks a shift from traditional seabed cable-based ocean monitoring to autonomous offshore power and communications without permanent infrastructure, the company said, adding that the system is now operational and will support environmental monitoring and marine sensor integration.
Ocean Power also said it also received a purchase order from Stevens Institute of Technology for its WAM-V unmanned surface vehicle, expanding its academic research pipeline.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
