WTO Body to Form Panel on India-China Solar Tariffs Dispute

MT Newswires Live06-24

The World Trade Organization's Dispute Settlement Body on Tuesday agreed to form a panel on China's request to review measures in India affecting imports of solar cells, solar modules, and information technology goods, according to an official statement released the same day.

This was China's second request for the establishment of a panel after its first attempt in May, which India also opposed.

China said India's tariff measures were contrary to its WTO commitments and that bilateral consultations had not resolved the dispute.

India, on the other hand, said it regretted that China requested the establishment of a panel for the second time, as it had already demonstrated the measures' compliance with WTO rules during consultations.
