Booking CEO Says Customer Trust Will Drive Competitive Edge With AI -- Market Talk

Dow Jones06-23

0927 ET - Booking CEO Glenn Fogel is banking on customer trust to keep the online travel agency competitive with AI models. Fogel says on CNBC that large-language models such as Anthropic's Claude don't have the same customer service as Booking: "Can you imagine you book your hotel through Claude? Something goes wrong, who are you going to call?" He also says LLMs aren't capable of navigating certain regulations and currency exchanges necessary for booking travel accommodations globally. He notes 65% of Booking's customers come to the company's sites directly, which he sees as an indicator that people prefer to use a brand they know and trust. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
