NiSource (NI) has secured approval from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission for agreements supporting its partnership with Amazon (AMZN) to serve new data center development in northern Indiana, the company said Tuesday.
The commission approved a settlement agreement, a special contract with Amazon and a related power purchase agreement, NiSource said.
The approved structure is designed so that data center customers will fund the generation and transmission infrastructure needed to meet their electricity demand, the company said.
NiSource said the approved framework is expected to generate $1.4 billion in savings for existing customers under its broader data center strategy.
