Ford (F), General Motors (GM), Toyota (TM), and other alliance members could face a suspension of new and used vehicle sales in California on July 1 unless the state postpones domestic violence tracking prevention rules, the Alliance for Automotive Innovation said Tuesday.
Current state regulations require automakers to install tracking-disabling technologies that cannot be fully implemented before the deadline, the group said.
A Senate bill would extend the compliance timeline by shifting the requirements to future model years to align with standard automotive manufacturing cycles, the alliance said.
The group also said automakers have already enacted online platforms to deactivate connected location services within two business days of a request.
