BHP (BHP) said Friday it has decided to split the President Americas role into President North America and President South America, ahead of incoming Chief Executive Brandon Craig taking office on July 1.

Jessica Farrell will become president of North America, effective July 1. She is currently vice president for innovation, and, before that, president of the company's nickel asset in Western Australia. Farrell will also be the acting president of South America until a permanent appointment is made.

Further, Edgar Basto, currently the chief operating officer, will become chief enterprise performance officer and will report to the CEO, according to the statement.

Geraldine Slattery will also continue as the president for Australia, but assume responsibility for Copper South Australia, bringing all of Australia's operating assets together under her leadership, BHP said.
