EU member states have agreed to continue holding off retaliatory tariffs against the US related to the trade feud between Boeing (BA) and Airbus, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The companies' trade dispute started in 2004, when the US filed a case claiming Airbus received illegal subsidies, Bloomberg said. The EU has since filed a similar case and then both parties imposed tariffs against the other's exports, but in 2021 agreed on a temporary truce, the report added.
Sources told Bloomberg that the tariff suspension's extension was given no deadline. European Commission spokesman Olof Gill told the news outlet that talks with the US over the matter are ongoing.
Boeing, Airbus and the European Commission did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
