SpaceX (SPCX) has told investors it is considering launching a Starlink retail mobile service for US consumers, the Financial Times reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The potential move would shift Starlink beyond its current model of working with telecom partners and into direct sales of mobile contracts to individual customers, according to the report. SpaceX also could build its own terrestrial US mobile network, the FT reported.
A direct-to-consumer Starlink mobile offering would put SpaceX in competition with Verizon (VZ), AT&T (T) and T-Mobile US (TMUS), the report said.
SpaceX did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
