NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte sought to ease tensions with President Donald Trump over European allies' reluctance to support the US campaign against Iran, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
According to Bloomberg, Rutte praised Trump's leadership and presented charts highlighting increased NATO defense spending under his presidency.
Trump, however, reiterated his disappointment with allies including the UK, Germany and France for refusing to allow the US to use their military bases during the Iran conflict.
Bloomberg said the meeting came at a sensitive time for the alliance as the Iran war has heightened strains between Washington and its European allies.
