MDA Space's Canadian Government Deal Tops Expectations

Dow Jones06-26

1221 ET - MDA Space's surprisingly large contract with the Canadian Space agency should add greater visibility to revenue and shows how much money the government is willing to spend in defence and earth-observation capabilities. The C$688 million award came in "above market expectations," underscoring both the scale of Ottawa's Radarsat+ investment and the strength of MDA's positioning in sovereign earth-observation programs, CIBC's Erin Kyle says. The addition of the contract to 2Q/26 lifts the Canadian space technology company's trailing book-to-bill and meaningfully improves backlog quality, according to the report. The multi-year structure of the deal provides long-term revenue clarity, with contributions beginning in 2027 and ramping through the decade. (adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
