Apple (AAPL) and Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google are facing proposed conduct requirements that would remove restrictions preventing application developers from directing customers to off-platform payment options, the UK's Competition and Market Authority said Tuesday.
The proposed rules aim to ensure any alternative transactional fees charged by the platforms remain fair and lower than current store rates, the agency said.
The agency is also designing a potential rule that would provide developers with access to near-field communication functionalities to support contactless payments within mobile operating systems, the regulator said.
The ongoing measures follow three other conduct requirements enforced by the body over the past 18 months, it added.
