Apple (AAPL) has accused the Competition Commission of India of copying rivals' claims and failing to conduct an independent investigation in concluding that the company violated competition laws, Reuters reported Monday, citing regulatory documents.
In 2024, the regulator issued a report alleging that Apple engaged in "abusive conduct" on the App Store for its iOS operating system and wrongly mandated the use its payment system. Apple denies the allegations.
In a June 25 submission, Apple argued that it is a small player in the country's smartphone market with less than a 6% share and that the investigation's conclusions relied on rivals' claims rather than the regulator's own analysis. Apple warned that any forced changes to its App Store could disrupt its integrated business model, Reuters reported.
The regulator and all parties in the case are expected to hold a closed-door hearing on July 21, the report said.
Apple and the Competition Commission of India did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
