Airbus said it received an order for 18 A330neo aircraft from Scandinavian carrier SAS.

The European plane maker said the order for A330-900 aircraft would help SAS expand its international network, adding planes for high-capacity routes and introducing new routes.

Separately, SAS said it made its largest ever investment, with 40 Airbus widebody aircraft. Without breaking down numbers, it said the airline was combining new Airbus A330-900neos with extra Airbus A330-300 aircraft secured to support its near-term growth.

The aircraft have a list price of over $10 billion, but buyers typically receive steep discounts for big orders.

"This is the largest investment in our company's history and a clear signal of our confidence in the future," SAS President & CEO Anko van der Werff said.
