Cal-Maine Foods (CALM) has reached a deal to settle claims brought by the US Department of Justice and 17 state attorneys general following an investigation into an alleged egg price index manipulation scheme, the company said late Monday.
The company said the communications cited in the complaint did not affect egg prices and that its conduct was lawful.
The settlement imposes no fines or penalties but includes certain compliance and reporting requirements. Under the deal, the company will also donate 30 million eggs to food banks and nonprofits and pay $1.5 million, it said.
