Amazon.com (AMZN) is designing custom artificial intelligence chips for Echo, Fire TV and other key consumer devices to expand on-device AI capabilities, CNBC reported Thursday, citing an interview with Devices and Services Chief Panos Panay.

Panay told CNBC that Amazon already develops end-to-end silicon for devices including the Echo Show 8, Echo Show 11 and Fire TV, while continuing to use chips from suppliers such as Qualcomm (QCOM) for some products, according to the report.

Amazon has a roadmap of AI-powered portable devices that users can carry with them and indicated new products could be introduced soon, Panay added, CNBC reported.

Amazon.com did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
