Amazon.com's (AMZN) Amazon Web Services and Microsoft (MSFT) are among the tech companies that have successfully pushed the European Union to consider weaker climate rules for data centers, the Financial Times reported Thursday, citing draft rules it reviewed.
According to the report, the latest proposal would broaden the use of energy certificates, including those linked to nuclear power, to offset emissions from gas-powered data centers, easing earlier restrictions on renewable energy offsets.
The proposed changes follow lobbying by Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and the European Data Centre Association, which argued the original rules would increase costs, the report added.
Amazon and Microsoft did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
