Alphabet's (GOOG) Google and UK actor Idris Elba will provide about 100,000 creators in Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, and Sierra Leone with access to Google's Gemini AI assistant and other digital tools, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
The report said Google and Elba's Elba Hope Foundation will fund the initiative, valued at about $1 million, to help creators produce content more quickly and at a lower cost.
Elba told Bloomberg he also plans to expand Africa's creative industry through projects including a creative village in Ghana, a studio complex in Zanzibar, and the Akuna Wallet fintech platform for cross-border payments.
Google also expects to select 15 African startups for its AI-focused program beginning July 21, part of its goal to support 50 startups across the continent by 2028, Bloomberg reported.
