ABC-Mart (TYO:2670) all-store sales fell 6.6% year-on-year in June due to fewer Sundays and poor weather from typhoons and rain, which kept foot traffic low.

However, sports apparel saw strong demand from Father's Day gifts, especially hands-free shoes and weather-adaptive clothing, according to a Thursday filing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The retailer's existing store sales also declined 6.6% year-on-year.

The number of customers at all stores dropped nearly 13% while spending rose 6.9%.

At existing stores, customer count fell nearly 13% while sales per customer gained 6.8%.

The retailer opened three new stores and closed two during the month, bringing the total store count to 1,116.
