Orica (ASX:ORI) approved final investment for its Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub, moving ahead with a commercial-scale renewable hydrogen facility integrated into its existing ammonia operations at Kooragang Island in New South Wales, according to a Wednesday Australian bourse filing.

The project will use renewable electricity and recycled water to produce about 4,700 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year, supporting roughly 26,600 tonnes of low-carbon ammonia output while reducing natural gas feedstock consumption by around 7.5%, per the filing.

Construction is scheduled to start in the current year, with initial output expected by early 2029, the filing said.

Total capital expenditure is projected at AU$245 million to AU$283 million over 2026 to 2029, the filing added.
