New Zealand's new rental listings on realestate.co.nz were 6,729 in June, a 10% increase on June last year, with 15 of the country's 19 regions recording more new rental listings than a year ago, according to a Tuesday report by realestate.co.nz.
The report said the national average weekly rent was NZ$635 in June, down 0.2% compared with June 2025, with Wairarapa recording the largest increase in new rental listings, up nearly 67% year on year, followed by Southland, up almost 33%, Central North Island, up over 28%, and Nelson and Bays, up 25%.
In the major centers, Auckland new listings rose 7.8% year on year to 2,875, Canterbury's new listings rose 14% to 735, and Wellington's increased 6.8% to 537, the report added.
Coromandel saw the greatest average weekly rent decline, falling 9.6% from June last year, while West Coast recorded the strongest increase in weekly rents, up 6.2% to NZ$459 per week, followed by Nelson and Bays, up 4.4% to NZ$593 per week, and Central Otago/Lakes District, up 3.3% to NZ$854 per week, the report said.
Wellington's rental stock fell roughly 26% year on year to 805 from 1,084 properties, the sharpest decline of any major region, despite rents rising just 0.5% year on year to NZ$628 per week, it added.
