Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group's (MUFG) banking unit, MUFG Bank, and JCB said Monday they signed a memorandum of understanding to form a strategic partnership in the ASEAN region.
The companies said they plan to combine MUFG Bank's banking network and digital finance investments with JCB's payment network to expand services for affluent customers and develop digital payment offerings across Southeast Asia.
As part of the partnership, the companies said they plan to launch a new premium JCB card in Indonesia during fiscal 2026, which will be JCB's highest-tier card issued outside Japan.
They also plan to explore cross-border payment services and mobile payment solutions through MUFG's digital finance investments, the companies added.
