Synopsys (SNPS) plans to stop its production process control software suite for semiconductor manufacturers to redirect resources toward higher-margin artificial intelligence design, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing six unnamed sources briefed on the matter.
The company has notified over 10 semiconductor makers, including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Qorvo (QRVO), of the planned changes, which will limit future support to maintenance agreements, two sources told the news outlet.
The decision affects automated fabrication tools used for tracking and identifying production issues and has led to a few dozen job cuts, Reuters reported, citing sources.
Synopsys, Samsung, SK Hynix and Qorvo did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
