Vera Therapeutics' Drug to Reduce Proteinuria Gets FDA Approval

Vera Therapeutics' (VERA) Trutakna has been approved to reduce proteinuria in adults with primary immunoglobulin A nephropathy, the US Food and Drug Administration said in a Tuesday statement.

Trutakna is injected subcutaneously once weekly, the FDA said.

IgA nephropathy is a serious kidney disease that occurs when an abnormal form of an immunoglobulin A antibody builds up in the kidneys, causing kidney inflammation and damage, it said.

The drug also received priority review and breakthrough therapy designation for the indication, according to the FDA.

Shares were up over 6% in afternoon trading.
