Market Chatter: Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery Merger Possibly Faces Lawsuits From US States to Block Deal

MT Newswires Live07-09

Paramount's (PSKY) $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) could be faced with lawsuits from US states suing to block the deal as soon as next week, Reuters reported, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has taken the lead in investigating the deal, the news agency reported Wednesday. If the deal is delayed because of a court challenge, costs could mount for Paramount. Reuters reported last month that California, New York and other US states were preparing a lawsuit.

A spokesperson for Bonta's office declined to comment, Reuters said, adding that a Paramount spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Bonta's office and Paramount did not immediately respond to an out-of-office-hours-request for comment from MT Newswires.
