Walt Disney's (DIS) live-action remake of "Moana" debuted with an estimated $95 million at the global box office, including $43 million domestically, marking one of the weakest openings for the studio's live-action remakes, several media outlets reported over the weekend.
The film, which reportedly cost about $250 million to produce, nearly matched last year's "Snow White" for the lowest domestic debut in the remake franchise, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Despite poor reviews, audiences gave the film an A- CinemaScore.
The original "Moana" grossed $643 million worldwide, while "Moana 2" topped $1 billion.
Walt Disney did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
