Bank Negara Malaysia May Stand Pat This Year, but January Hike Risk Remains
Dow Jones07-13
0343 GMT - Malaysia's central bank may keep policy rates unchanged for some time, say BofA Securities economists Kai Wei Ang and Rahul Bajoria in a note. The central bank appears more confident about economic growth while viewing inflation as manageable. Their base case is for Bank Negara Malaysia to leave the policy rate at 2.75% this year. However, they continue to see a risk of a 25 bps rate increase in January 2027 if inflation becomes broader and more persistent.(yingxian.wong@wsj.com)
