Honda Odyssey Air Bag Deployment Petition Under Review by US Regulator

Honda Motor (HMC) Odyssey model-year 2011 through 2017 vehicles are under review by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over complaints about air bags deploying unnecessarily, the regulator said Monday.

The NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation received a May 30 petition requesting a probe, contending that air bags can deploy without a severe event such as an impact or rollover, the regulator said.

The petitioner cited 10 complaints alleging the same defect, the regulator said, adding that it will evaluate the reports, conduct a technical review, and evaluate whether to grant or deny the petition.

Honda did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
