Market Chatter: Palantir Technologies CTO Says China's AI Models Rely on Unauthorized Use of US Technology

MT Newswires Live07-16 02:14

Palantir Technologies (PLTR) Chief Technology Officer Shyam Sankar said China's latest artificial intelligence models have been developed partly through the unauthorized use of technology created by AI companies in the US, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing his interview.

He added that these Chinese open-source AI models are largely the result of "distillation attacks," the report said, adding that the technique refers to when developers use results from existing AI systems to train new models with similar capabilities at a lower cost.

Meanwhile, Sankar said he understood France's decision to replace Palantir's technology for its domestic intelligence agency with a local alternative as part of efforts to build greater tech sovereignty, according to the report.

Palantir didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
