Li Ning Shares Could Rise on Improving Sentiment in China Sportswear Sector

Dow Jones07-14

0715 GMT - Li Ning's shares could rise on improving sentiment in China's sportswear sector, say Citi analysts in a note. They expect 2Q retail sales of the core Li Ning brand to decline by a low single-digit percentage, which could weigh on the company's guidance for a high single-digit percentage rise in 2026 revenue. Although Li Ning's recent share-price weakness reflects a weaker retail environment and investors' lowered 2H expectations, Citi anticipates stronger investor sentiment toward sportswear stocks, especially after the government approved a proconsumption policy. Citi opens a short-term upside view on Li Ning, as it is more sensitive to market sentiment than peer Anta. Citi retains its buy rating and 22.80 Hong Kong dollar target price on Li Ning, which rises 1.2% to HK$14.90. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)
