Asia's AI Trade is Being Tested

Dow Jones07-16

0434 GMT - Asia's AI trade is being tested, HSBC strategists write in a note. South Korea remains Asia's strongest growth story, but leveraged investments and concentrated positions will likely keep volatility elevated, they write. In mainland China, there are growth opportunities in banks, property, internet, pharma and energy storage, as oversupply and weak demand still constrain many consumer sectors, they add. HSBC upgrades its rating on India equities to neutral from underweight, as lower energy prices and consumption resilience have lowered the earnings risk. A key concern is whether the recent pick up in foreign investor inflows can be sustainable as attention shifts back to AI-linked opportunities, they add. (kimberley.kao@wsj.com)
