Evidence of Falling U.S. Inflation Likely Needed to Drive Sustained Rally in Singapore Reits

Dow Jones07-15

0731 GMT - Singapore real-estate investment trusts likely need further evidence of moderating U.S. inflation to drive a sustainable rally in units, say DBS Group Research analysts in a note. U.S. inflation was softer than expected, easing concerns that the Federal Reserve might need to tighten policy further in the near term, which provides relief for the REITs, they say. REITs are typically highly sensitive to interest rate changes as they directly affect their cost of borrowing. While a tamer print could be tactically supportive for REITs, the analysts expect the Fed to remain data-dependent, leaving the interest-rate environment higher for longer. CapitaLand Ascendas REIT, Keppel REIT and Mapletree Logistics Trust are among DBS's preferences given recent weakness. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)
