Toyota Motor (TM) and other Asian transportation companies are turning their focus toward cleaner energy sources as concerns rise about securing oil amid disruptions linked to the Iran war, Nikkei Asia reported Thursday.
The cost of energy is very instrumental for the consumers, Masahiko Maeda, Toyota's chief executive officer for Asia, said at the Nikkei Asia Forum APAC 2026 in Bangkok.
Maeda noted India's focus on biofuels as an example of a pathway for energy transition.
Referring to the company's trials for hydrogen trucks in Thailand, Maeda said. Despite the general perception that hydrogen is the future, the costs are still and the technology is still not practical, Maeda said.
Toyota did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
