Shares in Digi Spain rose around 7% on their stock-market debut in Madrid after the telecommunications operator listed at a valuation of 1.66 billion euros ($1.9 billion).

In early afternoon, shares were trading around 5.69 euros compared with the initial public offering price of 5.60 euros announced on Thursday.

Romanian telecommunications company Digi has been active in the Spanish market since 2008. It operates its own retail locations and has an extensive distribution network to market its services throughout Spain.

Digi's Spanish unit's initial public offering follows a series of IPOs on the Spanish Stock Exchange that took place during the year, including those of Spanish engineering and technology group TSK and multinational holding company Andino, the first Latin American company to go public in this segment of the Spanish market.
