International Paper said Thursday it will close its Carrollton South packaging facility in Carrollton, Texas, by the end of the third quarter as part of efforts to streamline its North American packaging network.
The Memphis, Tenn.-based packaging company said the move is intended to better align its manufacturing footprint with customer demand and improve the long-term competitiveness of its North America packaging business.
The company did not disclose how many employees would be affected. Employees affected by the closure will receive severance, continued benefits and outplacement assistance, the company said.
"Decisions that affect our people and our communities are never made lightly. We're committed to supporting our Carrollton South team members throughout this transition," Keith Townsend, group vice president of North America Packaging East, said in a statement.
International Paper said customers served by the Carrollton South facility will be supported by other company plants in the region.
