(Updates with Honda's response in the fourth paragraph.)
Honda Motor (HMC) Odyssey model-year 2011 through 2017 vehicles are under review by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over complaints about air bags deploying unnecessarily, the regulator said Monday.
The NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation received a May 30 petition requesting a probe, contending that air bags can deploy without a severe event such as an impact or rollover, the regulator said.
The petitioner cited 10 complaints alleging the same defect, the regulator said, adding that it will evaluate the reports, conduct a technical review, and evaluate whether to grant or deny the petition.
Honda said in an email response to MT Newswires that it was aware of the petition but "will await the agency's findings before making any additional comment."
