China's battery storage systems are being used more intensively after policy changes made the sector more market-driven, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing a report from energy and climate think tank Ember.
Standalone battery storage systems averaged 299 charge-discharge cycles in 2025, more than double 2022 levels, while co-located systems reached 199 cycles, Ember analyst Biqing Yang said.
"As the power system integrates more renewables, the true value of batteries to China's energy transition is becoming undeniable," Yang said.
China ended mandatory battery co-location requirements last year, allowing standalone storage operators to earn revenue through electricity trading and grid services, Bloomberg reported.
