Utilities Shares Fall

Dow Jones05:44

Utility stocks were generally weaker along with the broader stock market.

Cathie Wood's ARK Invest is pumping money into the newly public nuclear company X-Energy. Since X-Energy went public on April 24, the funds of Wood's ARK Invest have racked up a total of 6,389,045 shares, valued at $88.4 million, according to company records. Based in Rockville, Maryland, X-Energy specializes in developing a type of advanced nuclear fission reactor known as a small modular reactor.

X-Energy stock has fallen more than 30% from its IPO price of $23 a share. It is almost 65% from the high it reached on its third day of trading. However, that hasn't stopped ARK Invest from scooping up shares. Wood has a penchant for companies working on cutting-edge technology and for expanding her positions when stocks she believes in fall.
