Bank Indonesia Expected to Raise Rate to 6% This Week

Dow Jones07-20

0221 GMT - Bank Indonesia is likely to raise interest rates for the fourth time this year, Moody's Analytics says in a note. "After a 50-basis point hike in May and two 25-basis point hikes in June, we expect BI to lift its key rate to 6% from 5.75%," it says. Moody's Analytics notes that the rupiah is back above 18,000 per U.S. dollar, losing nearly 8% of its value since the start of the year. Consequently, the central bank is expected to maintain its all-hands-on-deck approach to preserve currency stability. The rate decision is due Wednesday. (monica.gupta@wsj.com)
