Dollar-yen Tipped to Move Gradually Toward 165 by Year-end

Dow Jones07-17

0453 GMT - The dollar-yen pair is likely to gradually head toward 165 by the end of the year from around 162.40 currently, says Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management strategist Masahiro Ichikawa. The yen will likely maintain its bearish momentum against the dollar, Ichikawa says, as he expects two interest rate increases in the U.S. and just one more hike in Japan before year-end. Meanwhile, oil prices are expected to trend lower as long as the U.S. and Iran avoid a full-scale military conflict. Earlier Friday, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama reiterated her intervention warning, saying the government stands ready to take action at any time as needed. (megumi.fujikawa@wsj.com)
