Australian Senator Says Strike at BHP's Port Hedland Operations 'Deeply Concerning'

The workers strike at BHP's (ASX:BHP) Port Hedland operations in Western Australia is "deeply concerning," Australian Senator Dean Smith said in a Facebook post on Thursday after market hours.

Smith, an opposition member, said the Albanese Government has encouraged union-first workplace laws, which put Western Australian jobs and the national economy at risk.

"When operations at such a critical export gateway are disrupted, the economic consequences are felt not just across the Pilbara, but throughout Western Australia and the nation," Smith said.
