China's total oil and gas production reached a record 420 million tonnes of oil equivalent in 2025, according to the National Energy Administration on Tuesday.
Crude oil output hit an all-time high of 216 million tonnes, while natural gas production rose by over 10 billion cubic meters for the ninth straight year. Shale oil output surpassed 8.5 million tonnes, over 10 times the 2018 figure.
The surge follows a seven-year action plan that drove record reserves and output.
In 2026, the sector will launch a new strategic exploration campaign to maintain crude above 200 million tonnes and further boost natural gas production.
